Free AI visibility checkers

The short answer

RankEcho offers five no-login checks for different questions: robots.txt policy, explicit URLs and a simple brand-text match in one pasted answer, a page-level readiness heuristic, prompt ideas, and a deterministic fix preview. Each is a bounded snapshot, not provider certification or a visibility trend. The crawler checker reads robots.txt only; it cannot test a CDN, WAF, genuine bot identity, indexing, impressions, or citations.

What is an AI visibility checker?

The checks answer different questions. The robots checker parses a site's public policy file. The readiness checker applies RankEcho's heuristic to one URL. The citation checker extracts explicit URL domains and checks for a target-domain URL and simple brand-text match in one pasted answer. None can infer a provider's full retrieval or selection process.

Use a policy or page signal to form a diagnostic hypothesis, then verify it with authentic request evidence, provider indexing tools where available, and repeated answer observations. No repository evidence establishes that access failures are the most common cause across the web.

A checker is a snapshot. Because AI answers can vary between runs of the same prompt, a single check records one observation rather than a rate, and presence is better understood as a percentage across repeated runs.

Which checker should you run first?

Choose the check that matches the question; the list is a workflow, not a causal ranking.

  • Crawler policy check: what the current robots.txt declares for the checker's built-in bot list; it does not test CDN or WAF enforcement
  • AI citation checker: paste one answer and check for your target-domain URL, a simple brand-text match, and the explicit URLs it contains
  • Agent readiness check: RankEcho's 0-100 heuristic from one page fetch, not an engine-defined eligibility or citation score
  • Prompt gap finder: 12 deterministic candidate prompts from the domain-derived brand across five fixed intent labels; it does not measure actual gaps
  • GEO fix preview: a deterministic fix-package skeleton for one prompt, so you can inspect the template before deciding whether it fits the site and evidence

The five free checks

All five are free and need no account. The tools process submitted inputs to produce a result; per-IP rate-limit counters and site analytics may also be processed, so do not submit confidential material. Each links to the full audit when a snapshot is not enough.

How do you check whether ChatGPT cites your website?

The direct method takes a minute. Ask ChatGPT a question a buyer in your category would ask, without naming your brand, then paste the answer into the citation checker along with your domain. It reports whether the pasted text contains a target-domain URL or a simple brand-text match and lists normalized domains from its explicit URLs. It does not determine whether the answer relied on those URLs as sources.

The result of one check is a single observation, not a verdict. Ask the same question again tomorrow and the answer may contain different text and links. What makes the reading meaningful is repetition against a fixed prompt set, which is what turns presence into a rate you can act on.

If the answer never mentions the brand across several runs, test competing hypotheses with separate checks: documented search-crawler policy, genuine request evidence, indexing and snippet controls, useful initial HTML, query fit, and the explicit links shown in saved answers. Sequence alone does not establish the cause.

What a free checker cannot tell you

Three things, and they are the three that decide what to do next.

It cannot tell you your rate, because that needs the same prompts run repeatedly across engines rather than one check. It cannot establish why a citation is missing: crawler access, answer placement, entity clarity, and third-party coverage are hypotheses that require separate evidence. And it cannot tell you whether a change worked, because that needs a baseline recorded before the change and a re-test of the identical prompt after it.

That is the line between a checker and an audit. The free audit runs a prompt battery under its displayed engine scope, records each outcome, surfaces candidate hypotheses and checks for misses, and creates the baseline observation set that later re-tests compare against.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free AI visibility checker?

Yes. Five no-login checks cover robots.txt policy, explicit URL and brand-text parsing for one pasted answer, page-level heuristic signals, prompt ideas, and a deterministic fix preview. Each answers only its narrow question at that moment; none establishes overall visibility, reachability, or cause.

How do I check if ChatGPT mentions my brand?

Ask ChatGPT a question a buyer in your category would ask without naming your brand, then paste the answer into a citation checker with your domain. It checks whether the text contains a target-domain URL or simple brand-text match and lists domains extracted from explicit URLs; it does not determine which sources produced the answer. Repeat across several days, since answers can vary between runs.

What is the best AI visibility checking tool?

It depends on the question. A robots parser reports policy, a page heuristic reports detected signals, and a citation checker reports target-URL and brand-text matches plus extracted URL domains from one answer. A visibility rate requires repeated observations on a fixed prompt and engine panel.

Do I need to sign up to check AI visibility?

Not for the free checks, which run without an account. A full audit across a prompt battery and multiple engines requires an email so the result can be sent to you, but no card.

How often should I check AI visibility?

A one-off check answers only its narrow question at that moment. To estimate a visibility rate or observe movement, repeat a fixed prompt set across the same engine panel on a schedule; a single reading cannot separate a durable change from normal answer variation.
