Free tool
Free AI visibility checker
Find out whether ChatGPT (API), Perplexity and Gemini mention or cite your website when buyers ask about your category. Enter your domain and RankEcho asks each engine up to 12 real buyer questions, then shows the answers, the sources each engine cited and what to fix first.
No sign-up and no card. Up to 5 free audits an hour from one connection.
What the free check shows you
The report opens with the short answer: which questions you won, which you lost, and the fixes most likely to change that. Below it you can check the evidence behind every number.
| Part of the report | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Fix these first | The gaps worth fixing first, each linked to the question and engine where it showed up. |
| Prompt × engine map | For every question and engine: mentioned, cited, both or neither. |
| Who AI recommends instead | The competitors each engine named when it did not name you. |
| Citation and source evidence | The pages each engine cited, so you can see which sites shape answers in your category. |
| Technical checks | Whether AI crawlers can fetch your pages and whether the pages read well without JavaScript. |
How the checker works
- It reads your site. RankEcho fetches your homepage and key pages to learn your category, products and competitors.
- It writes buyer questions. It drafts up to 12 questions a buyer would ask an AI assistant, such as "best tools for" and "alternatives to" questions in your category.
- It asks each engine. Every question goes to ChatGPT (API), Perplexity and Gemini. Free audits check ChatGPT (API), Perplexity, and Gemini once per prompt.
- It reads the answers. For each answer it records whether your brand is named, whether your pages are cited, and which other brands and sources appear.
- It ranks the gaps. Questions where competitors appear and you do not come first, with the likely cause and the smallest change to try.
Mentions, citations and recommendations
AI visibility is not one number. A mention means the engine named your brand. A citation means it linked one of your pages as a source. A recommendation means it suggested you as an answer to the buyer's question. A brand can be cited on a definition question and still never be recommended on a "best tools" question, so the report keeps them apart. The guide mention vs citation vs recommendation explains how each is counted.
What to do with the results
- If crawlers are blocked, start with how to allow AI crawlers and the crawler policy check.
- If you are absent on questions you should win, compare your page with the cited sources using AI citation gap analysis.
- If competitors keep getting recommended, read why AI recommends competitors.
- To see what a ready-to-ship change looks like, open the sample fix package.

What one free check cannot tell you
AI answers change between runs, so a single check is a snapshot. It cannot tell you whether a change you made caused a later improvement. To prove that, ask the same questions before and after the change, and compare with questions the change did not touch. RankEcho's paid plans re-ask the same questions on a schedule; the fixed-prompt retest guide shows the method by hand. Paid and trialing accounts add Claude and Google AI Overviews when configured for the account, for up to 5 engines.
Frequently asked questions
Is the AI visibility checker really free?
Yes. The free audit needs no account and no card. It asks ChatGPT (API), Perplexity and Gemini up to 12 buyer questions about your category. You can run up to 5 free audits an hour from one connection.
Which AI engines does the free check use?
Free audits check ChatGPT (API), Perplexity, and Gemini once per prompt. Paid and trialing accounts add Claude and Google AI Overviews when configured for the account, for up to 5 engines. The ChatGPT check uses OpenAI's API with web search, which can differ from what a signed-in ChatGPT user sees.
What is the difference between a mention and a citation?
A mention is your brand named in the answer text. A citation is a link to one of your pages among the answer's sources. The report counts them separately, because an engine can name you without linking you, or link you without recommending you.
Why does my brand not show up in AI answers?
The usual causes are that crawlers cannot read the page, that no page answers the question directly, or that other sites say more about your category than you do. The report's technical checks and source evidence show which one applies to each question.
How often should I check AI visibility?
AI answers vary from one run to the next, so one check is a snapshot, not a score to watch daily. Check again after you ship a change, using the same questions, and compare. Paid plans re-test the same questions on a schedule and compare the results before and after.
How is this different from other free AI visibility checkers?
Most free checkers return one score. This one shows the questions it asked, each engine's answer, the sources each engine cited, the competitors named instead of you, and the gaps to fix first, so you can check every number yourself.
