llms.txt validator
Paste your llms.txt below to check it against the llmstxt.org format: one title, a short summary, sections, and link lists. The check runs in your browser and nothing is sent to RankEcho.
What the validator checks
| Check | Rule |
|---|---|
| Title | The first line is a single H1, such as "# Example Co". |
| Summary | A blockquote right after the title says what the site is in one or two sentences. |
| Sections | Links are grouped under ## headings. Deeper headings are flagged. |
| Links | Each list item is "- [name](https://...)" with optional notes after a colon. |
| Size | Duplicate URLs and lists over 100 links are flagged, because the file is meant to be a short guide. |
| Optional section | A section named Optional comes last. |

Where llms.txt fits
An llms.txt file is quick to write, but AI assistants mostly find and cite pages through their normal crawlers and search indexes. Before polishing the file, make sure AI crawlers can reach your pages with the crawler policy check, and see whether you show up at all with the free AI visibility checker. The guide what is llms.txt covers the proposal and its limits.
Frequently asked questions
What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a proposed Markdown file at the root of a site, such as example.com/llms.txt, that gives AI systems a short, curated guide to the site's most useful pages. It is a proposal, not a standard that search engines or AI assistants have committed to read.
What does a valid llms.txt contain?
One H1 title with the site or project name, a short summary in a blockquote, optional notes, then sections with ## headings that list links as "- [name](url): notes". A section named Optional, if present, comes last.
Does llms.txt help my site appear in ChatGPT or Google?
There is no public evidence that ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google use llms.txt to choose sources. Treat it as cheap and harmless documentation, and spend most of your effort on crawl access and clear pages.
Does this validator fetch my file?
No. Paste the file's text and the checks run in your browser. Nothing is sent to RankEcho. Open your-domain/llms.txt in a new tab to copy it.
