Build a Third-Party Corroboration Plan for AI Search
Start with one buyer question and one claim you can substantiate. Trace relevant outside coverage to its original evidence, record commercial relationships, then prepare a factual correction or an evidence packet for editorial review. Seven pages repeating the same material do not establish seven independent evaluations. Use the worksheet to decide what is worth doing and when to stop.
Copy the corroboration plan
Use one plan per claim and one source record per page. The completed example below shows how to turn it into a specific editorial handoff.
THIRD-PARTY CORROBORATION PLAN Owner / review date: Buyer question and exact claim: Product version / plan / role / region / effective date: Approved first-party evidence URL and exact locator: What this evidence does not establish: SOURCE RECORD — repeat for each page Record ID / captured URL / date / saved copy: Publisher / author / relationship to our company / disclosure: Exact passage or test supporting the claim: Relevance: supported / partial / unrelated / unresolved Origin of the evidence / original URL / copied or syndicated from: Independent evaluation / partner-controlled / paid / unresolved: Confirmed error, useful missing evidence, or no action: ONE NEXT ACTION Decision: prepare evidence / request factual correction / offer for editorial review / hold / no action Reader benefit and why this publisher is relevant: Evidence packet: claim, method, version, inputs, results, limitations, author, reuse terms Public contact or submission channel and its rules: Our affiliation and any commercial relationship to disclose: Specific request (no required endorsement, link or ranking): Internal approval / responsible person / review deadline: Stop condition and follow-up limit: RESULT RECORD Sent / not sent / declined / unanswered / accepted for review: Actual published URL / date / exact wording / relationship / origin: Correction verified, unchanged, partial, or unresolved: Independent evidence origins (deduplicate syndicated copies): Later AI observations under the same prompt/surface rules: Separate referral, signup and customer outcomes: Next decision and maintenance trigger:
What does third-party corroboration mean here?
It means a source outside your company supplies relevant support for a specific claim. Record how that support was produced. An independent test, a partner listing, a paid article and a syndicated press release have different relationships to the original evidence. A page can be accurate and useful without providing an independent evaluation.
Choose a claim buyers actually need to verify, such as whether a particular plan exports custom fields. Avoid starting with a broad claim that your product is the best. Resolve uncertainty in your own facts before approaching another publisher. A lack of outside coverage alone does not show that your product is unreliable or explain an AI answer.
How do you find sources worth inspecting?
Begin with the exact buyer question, relevant specialist publications and genuine partner or product documentation. If an AI answer led you here, preserve the original response and source interface, then open each relevant page. ChatGPT's Sources view can contain cited sources and other relevant links; a listed page still needs a claim-level check.
Save the page date, author, exact supporting passage, product conditions, disclosures and original-source pointer. Look for a described test or primary record. Follow attribution and syndication notices back to their origin. Shared ownership, supplied copy or a commercial arrangement should be recorded even when the statement is correct. If you cannot determine the relationship, mark it unresolved.
Select a publication because its readers use the evidence, not because a domain score or one captured citation promises placement. Start with a short, relevant list that someone can review individually. There is no required number of sites in this method.
What do seven source pages actually establish?
Fictional editorial exercise: OrbitDesk, all publishers, relationships and test descriptions below are invented. The narrow claim is that OrbitDesk 2.4 exports custom fields to CSV on Starter when an Admin runs the export. These are supplied review records, not observed product tests, customer results or live AI citations.
Read the provenance column before counting support. R2 and R3 reproduce R1's evaluation. The partner and sponsor repeat commercial material, the category article does not address the claim, and the last record remains unresolved.
| Record | Evidence and provenance | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| R1 · Original specialist review | A reviewer tested custom-field CSV export in OrbitDesk 2.4, Starter, Admin role. | Retain this narrow observation and its stated test conditions. |
| R2 · Licensed copy of R1 | Reprints R1's test and credits the original; no new test. | Group with R1; it adds a location, not another evaluation. |
| R3 · Syndicated copy of R1 | Carries the same review and result with an attribution link. | Group with R1 and R2; preserve the original source pointer. |
| R4 · Partner directory listing | Repeats the vendor's supplied compatibility statement. | Record the relationship; verify facts without calling it independent testing. |
| R5 · Disclosed sponsored article | Uses a paid brief describing the same export feature. | Retain as commercial coverage, separate from independent corroboration. |
| R6 · Independent category article | Names OrbitDesk but does not discuss custom-field exports. | Do not use it to support this claim or request an unsupported endorsement. |
| R7 · Unclear review provenance | Authorship, relationship and the source of the test result are unknown. | Hold the record until the missing evidence is resolved. |
How should you count independent evidence?
The example contains 7 source records. 3 records carry relevant independently produced evidence, but they share 1 original evaluation. 1 record remains unresolved. Report these units separately; the three copies do not become three separate tests.
The local check groups supplied origin IDs after excluding paid, partner, unrelated and unresolved records. It verifies the example's arithmetic and preservation of unknowns. It does not discover plagiarism, determine real editorial independence, assess test quality, query an AI provider or establish an authority threshold. Human source review supplies those inputs.
Use the exact scope of the original test. An Admin export result in one version cannot substantiate all roles, future releases or a claim that every integration works. If another reviewer conducts a genuinely separate relevant evaluation, record that origin and method separately rather than assuming every new URL is independent.
What goes in a useful evidence packet?
Prepare something a relevant editor or reviewer can inspect without repeating your marketing claims. Include the exact statement, the underlying evidence, who produced it and where its limits begin. Google's helpful-content guidance emphasizes original information and clear sourcing; the packet below is a practical way to make those qualities inspectable.
For an original study, include the sampling frame, inclusion rules, dates, denominator, missing data, method and negative results. For a product capability, include the version, plan, role, reproducible steps and expected output. Use data you are entitled to share and state reuse terms. Remove confidential material before creating a public packet.
| Packet element | Completed fictional example |
|---|---|
| Buyer question | Can our Starter administrator export custom fields? |
| Approved claim | OrbitDesk 2.4 supports custom-field CSV export on Starter for the Admin role. |
| Evidence to supply | A dated capability page, release note, synthetic input file, exact export steps and expected CSV; a responsible product reviewer checks each before release. |
| Limits | No promise about Viewer access, attachments, older versions, other formats or third-party integrations. |
| Provenance and access | Vendor-authored material; named maintainer, review date and public source location. No customer records or implied independent endorsement. |
| Acceptance | A reader can check the narrow claim. The receiving publisher may test it, criticize it, decline it or make no change. |
Which editorial action is justified?
Match the request to the evidence and the publisher's purpose. Use the publication's stated corrections or submission channel, disclose your affiliation and make one specific request. A communications owner should approve the packet and any message before sending. The examples on this page are preparation exercises; no publisher has been contacted.
| Observed situation | Action and completion condition |
|---|---|
| A specific current fact is wrong | Submit the exact passage, approved replacement and dated support through the correction channel. Complete when the actual wording is checked, or record declined, unanswered or unresolved. |
| A relevant reader question lacks useful evidence | Offer a method or source packet for editorial consideration. Completion is a documented handoff; publication and favorable coverage remain the editor's decisions. |
| Your evidence is incomplete | Prepare or verify it first. Do not ask someone else to endorse the unsupported claim. |
| Coverage is accurate but does not link to you | Assess whether a source pointer helps readers verify a fact. Do not treat the missing link as an error or make a link a condition of access. |
| The page is irrelevant or the relationship is unclear | Close the irrelevant opportunity or hold it pending clarification. A citation screenshot alone does not justify outreach. |
What would a bounded correction handoff look like?
In a separate fictional scenario, a partner catalog says custom-field export requires Pro. The product reviewer has approved the narrower Starter/Admin statement and a dated evidence packet. The request identifies that one catalog field, the current wording, the proposed wording, the version and role, and the public supporting location. It discloses that the sender works for the vendor. It asks the catalog owner to verify the correction; it does not ask for a recommendation or a keyword-rich link.
Assign the partner manager to prepare the request and the product reviewer to confirm its facts. Check the catalog's submission rules and record whether anything was actually sent. Set a review date and a follow-up limit appropriate to that channel; stop if the publisher declines or its rules prohibit follow-up. After any edit, capture the actual wording and retained limits. A corrected partner listing remains partner coverage in the source ledger.
The completed handoff is useful even if no independent review follows. For an independent publication, offer the underlying materials and let the editor choose whether and how to evaluate them. Preserve critical findings and no-change outcomes in the result record.
How do paid coverage and community contributions fit?
Keep advertising and sponsorship in a separate commercial record. Google's policy prohibits links created primarily to manipulate rankings; it gives purchased ranking links and automated link creation as examples. Do not build this plan around paid ranking links, fake reviews, manufactured endorsements or repetitive forum posts.
Google prefers rel=sponsored for paid-placement links and accepts nofollow; it recommends ugc for user-generated links. Let publishers apply their own appropriate link treatment. Disclosing and qualifying a paid placement does not make it an independent test. In communities, contribute only where the question and rules permit it, disclose your relationship, and make the answer useful on its own.
What should you measure after the handoff?
First report the action: packet completed, not sent, sent, declined, unanswered, corrected or published. For published coverage, capture the actual claim, relationship and evidence origin. Count independent origins separately from source pages, then revisit facts when the product version or cited evidence changes.
Observe later AI answers with the same prompt, surface and source-role rules, retaining missing and unchanged results. Record mentions, citations and recommendations separately. Track identified referrals and downstream signup or customer outcomes in your own analytics. A later citation or visit does not prove that the editorial action caused it.
Google's AI features require no special AI schema, and eligibility cannot guarantee inclusion. This plan has no minimum mention target or promised time to citation. Continue useful editorial work based on evidence and reader fit, then use actual outcomes to decide what to repeat.
Where does RankEcho help with the next step?
If source review reveals an unsupported claim on your own page, package that URL, the evidence and one proposed correction. Inspect the sample fix and evaluate the paid Fix Engine for organizing the change with human review and manual shipment. Your communications team handles editorial submissions and follow-up; RankEcho does not sell placements or publish on third-party sites for you.
Free audits check Perplexity and Gemini once per prompt. Paid and trialing accounts add ChatGPT, Claude, and Google AI Overviews when configured for the account, for up to 5 engines. RankEcho does not currently run Microsoft Copilot checks.
Keep your source ledger and analytics alongside the workflow. Do not assume a native Search Console or GA4 connector, a universal independence score, or guaranteed citation gains.
Frequently asked questions
Check the specific claim and how the evidence was produced. A name in a category article, a paid brief and a repeated review establish different things.
Only consider a source pointer when it helps readers verify something relevant. An accurate unlinked mention is not automatically an error, and the publisher decides its links.
Yes. It can help buyers verify compatibility or current requirements. Record the relationship and do not relabel supplied vendor copy as independent testing.
No. The plan produces a verifiable editorial action. Later provider answers and business outcomes must be observed separately.
