# Direct answer review worksheet

Draft one complete answer to a verified buyer question on its intended page. Keep the sources and exceptions beside the draft, then record content, delivery and rollback checks before treating the change as complete.

Worksheet version 1.0 · 22 September 2026. Complete and repeat records as needed. Blank fields request your evidence; this manual file does not verify sources, publish changes or collect provider answers.

Complete guide: https://rankecho.io/resources/fix/direct-answer-block

## 1 Confirm the question and page

Start from a reviewed prompt-to-page mapping. Stop drafting when the intended canonical owner or support for a material claim is unresolved.

**Question and reader task** — Record the registered prompt ID, exact question, audience, locale and the decision the reader needs to make.

[Enter your response]

**Target and before version** — Record the intended canonical URL, resolved ownership evidence, saved page version, existing question/answer locators and the responsible editor.

[Enter your response]

**Required and missing information** — List required facets with stable IDs, current support and the missing facet selected for repair. Retain competing explanations and explain why this one page owns the answer.

[Enter your response]

## 2 Draft with the support visible

Use the length needed for a complete answer. There is no prescribed word count. A source for the standard case does not automatically support an exception.

**Question heading and proposed answer** — Write the descriptive heading and full visible answer. State the subject first, then retain every condition, exception, unit, date or version that changes the meaning.

[Enter your response]

**Clause to source mapping** — For each material clause, record source owner, version, checked date and exact locator. Preserve unresolved or conflicting evidence and narrow or remove unsupported wording.

[Enter your response]

**Placement and related wording** — Record where heading and answer will appear in main content. Identify any repeated FAQ, metadata, accessibility or markup wording and keep it within the same support boundary.

[Enter your response]

## 3 Review the bounded change

The original fictional Northstar example adds the after-shock exception while retaining the standard interval. Its source labels are placeholders, not evidence for a real product.

**Before and proposed after** — Record the missing information, exact semantic change and before/after facet counts. Confirm that unrelated copy and canonical ownership remain intact.

[Enter your response]

**Content review** — Name the reviewer and decision date. Check completeness, source scope and every qualifier. Retain requested revisions; a wording approval leaves live acceptance checks pending.

[Enter your response]

**Acceptance plan** — Define the evidence needed for the visible question and facets, source links, repeated-copy parity, bounded diff and rollback. Assign an owner to each check.

[Enter your response]

| Fictional G02 facet | Before | After |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Standard interval | 12 months with conditions | Same conditions retained |
| After-shock exception | Missing | Bulletin conditions added |
| Required facet coverage | 1 of 2 | 2 of 2 |

## 4 Record execution and follow up

After execution, inspect the actual response and rendered page separately. An approved draft alone does not demonstrate live delivery or later search outcomes.

**Executed content and delivery checks** — Record pass, fail or pending for each acceptance check with evidence and time. Distinguish source HTML, rendered content, link resolution and metadata/markup consistency; retain unavailable checks.

[Enter your response]

**Release and rollback record** — Record the approved version, actual deployment time, saved before version and rollback owner. Name the triggers for restoring the supported version and record any rollback test.

[Enter your response]

**Separate later observations** — Link the registered prompt/surface protocol and later evidence. In the fictional guide, total support changes from 5/7 to 6/7; that describes content coverage and does not establish AI selection or causality.

[Enter your response]

## Complete guide

A direct answer block is a visible, source-bounded response placed immediately beneath a descriptive question heading on the one canonical page selected by Find. State the subject and answer first, preserve conditions and exceptions, link the supporting record, and keep the rest of the page unchanged unless the evidence requires more. There is no universal word count, chunk size, schema, or writing formula for AI selection. Acceptance depends on rendered-content, source, scope, and rollback checks; a later citation, ranking, referral, or site-traffic change is not required. Site traffic is a separate outcome and is not required.

Original guide update: 2026-09-07. Worksheet prepared 22 September 2026. The original guide and its evidence records retain their dates. The worksheet is an original manual form, not a provider-approved measurement standard.

## What is the scope of a direct-answer-block fix?

Change one question on one intended canonical page with one source-bounded semantic delta. The goal is a complete reader-visible answer, not a sitewide rewrite or a page for every wording variation.

A direct block can repair the verified content defect. It cannot expose or control a provider's selection process and does not promise indexing, ranking, quotation, citation, referral, or traffic.

## What prerequisites must arrive from Find?

Do not draft until the handoff identifies the page, missing information, and support boundary.

- Registered prompt and user job, exact target URL, required facets, and current visible locators.
- The missing facet, supporting record, saved before version, and competing explanations.
- A bounded semantic delta, acceptance rule, later proof cells, and rollback condition.
- A stop decision when page ownership or material claim support remains unresolved.
- [Review the prompt-gap handoff](https://rankecho.io/resources/find/prompt-gap-analysis)

## What makes a direct answer complete?

Use a descriptive question heading followed immediately by a subject-specific answer. Preserve material conditions, exceptions, units, dates, jurisdiction, and product version, then make the real support available to the reader.

The answer should remain accurate when read apart from surrounding prose. There is no universal length: use the shortest form that completely serves the reader and the registered facets.

## What does the worked synthetic direct-answer block show?

SYNTHETIC EXAMPLE — Northstar S1, its pages, sources, surfaces, and observations are fictional; this is not RankEcho data, customer data, provider evidence, or a benchmark.

Before the change, the fictional calibration page states the 12-month interval under standard conditions but omits the after-shock exception. The after block adds the supported exception and a question-led heading without adding a superlative or broader claim.

| Element | Before | Bounded after | Acceptance |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Heading | Calibration schedule | How often should Northstar S1 be calibrated? | The question and subject are explicit |
| Standard interval | 12 months under standard conditions | 12 months under standard operating conditions | Synthetic Manual v3 §4.2 scope retained |
| Exception | Absent | Recalibrate sooner after a shock under the bulletin's conditions | Synthetic Bulletin B-2026-04 §2 scope added |
| Complete visible block | 1/2 required facets | Under standard operating conditions, calibrate the fictional Northstar S1 every 12 months. Recalibrate sooner after a shock under the conditions in Synthetic Bulletin B-2026-04. Follow Synthetic Manual v3 §4.2 and the bulletin for the complete procedure and exceptions. | 2/2 required facets |
| Unrelated copy | Saved before version | Unchanged | Bounded diff and rollback preserved |

## How must claims and sources stay bounded?

Match subject, predicate, value, condition, effective version, and exception. A record supporting the standard interval does not support the shock exception, so the two statements retain separate source locators.

Split claims when sources have different scopes. Narrow or remove anything unsupported rather than using a source decoratively.

## How must the answer be placed and delivered?

Put the heading before the answer and expose both in the rendered main HTML. Do not place the only material answer behind interaction, in an image, or only in metadata or structured data.

If the answer is repeated in an FAQ, accessibility text, metadata, or structured data, no version may broaden the visible claim. Preserve the canonical, heading hierarchy, useful internal context, and source links.

## What do provider recommendations not establish?

Microsoft's first-party article recommends descriptive headings and direct clear answers, but it is not a disclosed Bing ranking formula or causal test. Do not promise that an assistant will quote the block or select the page.

Google explicitly says no special content chunking, ideal page length, AI-only writing style, or special AI schema is required. Do not manufacture thin pages for every query variation or duplicate this block across competing URLs.

## Which deterministic validation checks accept the fix?

Accept the page from its bounded content and delivery evidence. Do not wait for an answer-system or traffic outcome.

| Check | Pass condition | Evidence |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Target and version | The exact canonical target and before version are retained | Resolved URL and version hash |
| Visible answer | The question heading and two required facets appear in main HTML | Rendered page capture |
| Source scope | The interval and exception retain their separate conditions and locators | Claim-to-source record |
| Bounded diff | No unrelated copy or unsupported claim changes | Semantic and file diff |
| Parity | FAQ, metadata, accessibility text, and structured data do not exceed visible wording | Rendered and markup checks |
| Rollback | The saved before version can be restored | Rollback identifier and test |

## How does the direct answer hand off to Prove?

Record the deployment time and exact semantic delta, then preserve the V01–V06 prompt, surface, repeat, context, state, signature, and evidence rules for later observations.

The fictional mapping moves from 5/7 to 6/7 = 85.7% supported facets and G02 moves from 1/2 to 2/2. Later answer movement is separate descriptive evidence and does not establish that the edit caused it. Site traffic is a separate outcome and is not required.

## Does every answer need a fixed word count?

No. Preserve the complete reader-serving answer, its qualifiers, and its support. Google says there is no ideal page length or required content chunking.

## Does Google require content chunking or special AI schema?

No. Google's guidance explicitly says neither tiny chunks nor special AI markup are required for its Search AI features.

## Does a question heading guarantee selection?

No. It can make the answer clearer for readers and inspection, but it does not guarantee crawling, indexing, selection, quotation, or citation.

## Can a direct block omit a material exception to be shorter?

No. Concision cannot change the claim. Preserve every condition and exception that affects the answer's meaning.

## Is traffic required to accept the direct-answer fix?

No. Site traffic is a separate outcome and is not required; acceptance uses the visible-answer, source, scope, parity, and rollback checks.
